I had the absolute pleasure of working with the talented Shane Deringer recently. Shane is a wedding and portrait photographer based in Victoria, BC and came to me in need of a complete rebrand. While I say rebrand, at the time, Shane didn’t really have a brand established at all. His ‘logo’ was just a small, basic image of a tree that I’m fairly certain came from a free font, lol (sorry to out you, Shane!). His website and blog were made up of preset designs that came with their purchase. Overall, his web presence appeared unoriginal, bland, and hardly communicative of who he was and what his work was about. These were the first things we worked on establishing. Who was Shane? What type of clients did he want to attract, and what message did he wish to communicate to viewers.
I quickly learned that Shane is a very open, laid back and down to earth guy who loves to surf. He’s very much a relational person who enjoys getting 1 on 1 time with people, and helping them to feel comfortable. He wanted the same relaxed feel to come through his brand, but with a certain element of boldness and certainly class, to compliment his stunning work. Lastly and naturally, as a guy, he wanted a design that was masculine, yet appealed to women; his main clientele as his focus is on weddings.
Taking all the above into consideration, we ended up with what I feel is a classy, distinguished logo with a bit of a laid back, west coast appeal.

Here’s a peek at some of the final products that followed. I had soo much fun working on this project with Shane, and it is one of my favorites to date!
